Dell is reselling Pentaho's analytics and data integration software as part of the Dell Apache Hadoop Solution, the computer maker's package of hardware and software for big data applications.

Pentaho said Wednesday that it's joining Dell's Emerging Solutions Ecosystem program as part of the new alliance.

Dell launched the Dell Apache Hadoop Solution in August, bundling together Dell servers and networking components, the vendor's Crowbar cloud deployment framework software, and Cloudera's distribution of the Hadoop platform.

"Now they're at the point where they need [data integration] tools and the analytical software," said Eddie White, Pentaho executive vice president of business development, in an interview. "They're reselling the entire suite of our software."

Orlando, Fla.-based Pentaho was one of the first business intelligence software vendors to embrace Hadoop, White said, and the vendor's technology is already integrated with Cloudera's software. Those factors, combined with Pentaho's focus on mid-market customers, are what attracted Dell to the small company, he said.

Currently Dell's direct sales force is selling the vendor's Hadoop package, but White said the products could become available to Dell's channel partners at some point.
