Red Hat has acquired business process management (BPM) technology from Polymita Technologies, a Barcelona, Spain-based developer, in a move that expands Red Hat's middleware product lineup.

Red Hat did not disclose how much it paid for the technology.

Polymita, a privately held company, developed what Red Hat called "a comprehensive BPM platform" with user-interface and workflow capabilities that make it possible for workers within an organization to "enhance productivity and collaboration while increasing control and visibility over business activities," Red Hat said in a statement Tuesday.

“The ability to change rapidly is an absolute necessity for businesses in today’s enterprise environment. Organizations that do not empower their business users to quickly and effectively modify automated business processes forfeit the ability to remain agile, competitive and relevant,” said Craig Muzilla, vice president and general manager of middleware at Red Hat.

Red Hat said it would use the Polymita software to augment its JBoss Enterprise Middleware integration software offerings, specifically complementing its JBoss Enterprise BRMS and jBPM products, and accelerate its entry into the BPM software market.

Red Hat is in the process of acquiring FuseSource, a developer of open-source integration and messaging software, which will also add to the JBoss line.
