Throw away those relic 3-D glasses you need for campy movies like "Jaws 3."
Brite Computer, a Rochester, N.Y.-based system builder and solution provider, has put together an alternative: a cutting-edge, digital signage solution that doesn't take display technology one step further—it takes it into another dimension.
As a result, the company won the CRN-Intel Best In Show Award for Business Innovation March 19 at the Intel Solution Summit, the company's annual conference for Intel Premier Providers, in Las Vegas.
Brite's 3D Energy Display is based on industry- standard PC or server components, a display filter and software from Opticality, and a display from Pioneer. The result: an eye-popping 3-D digital signage solution that Trevor Smith, Brite's sales director, believes can bring a high-end solution to market at industry-standard prices.
The solution could run on an Intel-based system for less than $1,000, Smith said, not counting the cost of the high-end display.
Also honored at the Intel summit was PC Club, which won the Best In Show Award for Digital Homes with its Empower Digital Home Experience Zones, a full-blown digital home built into four of PC Club's West Coast-based store locations.
The Industry, Calif., system builder and online retailer developed the Experience Zones in partnership with Intel and Microsoft as a way to demonstrate the potential of digital convergence. Not only do the Experience Zones showcase industry-standard technology, but they also play up services such as MovieLink.com and MusicMatch.
"Customers can come in and really see the innovation, and how they can personalize the experience for themselves," said Juliana Chen, director of marketing at PC Club. "They can see how you can stream video from one room to another, listen to digital music throughout a house or even set up a karaoke solution."
By showing not just the technology but also how it would be used in a digital home, the system builder has increased sales to a segment that represents a new line of revenue, she said.
