Avnet Takes On Health Care

After quietly investigating the public-sector market for some time, Tempe, Ariz.-based Avnet Partner Solutions, Americas, part of the Avnet Technology Solutions operating group of Avnet, has launched a health-care segment, with a federal-government segment not far behind.

Steve Tepedino, president of Avnet Technology Solutions in the Americas, says the company targets pockets that are expected to reach double-digit growth. With the potential in electronic health systems and the incorporation of wireless into infrastructures, health care is poised to deliver just that. "There are industries that are slated to grow faster than others," Tepedino says. "The explosion of enterprise products that happened in the late 1990s is what we think will happen with health-care products and services."

Avnet's OEM business could prove valuable in the distributor's drive into health care, Tepedino adds, as the market increasingly incorporates wireless mobile devices into network infrastructures.
