Avnet Makes Moves In Surveillance, Blade, ISV Arenas

The distributor also said it has added two new ISV partners and will participate in Blade.org, a collaboration created to develop technology for the blade server market.

DataCom’s Network Video Servers can be integrated directly into IBM’s xSeries and BladeCenter servers. The digital video surveillance system is targeted at partners specializing in networking, storage and vertical markets such as financing, gaming, hospitality, transportation and the public sector, according to Denny O’Connell, vice president and general manager of Avnet Partner Solutions’ IBM business unit.

The DataCom Network Video Servers solution includes cameras, plasma screens, monitors, racks, storage and network devices. It enables end users to monitor and record surveillance video from any point on a network or from a remote location.

The system provides fast retrieval times for stored video, high picture quality and enterprise-level digital storage that creates an increased level of redundancy and system stability, said Jack Bailey, CEO of DataCom Systems. It is scalable and can be integrated with any analog or IP-based infrastructure to maximize previous investments in storage and network infrastructure, he said.

Avnet and DataCom have created a suite of training and marketing tools to help solution providers get started, according to O’Connell.

With its involvement in Blade.org, Avnet Partner Solutions said it will provide guidance on blade solutions with help from its VAR customers.

"The success of our partners lies in their ability to deliver complete solutions," Sara Jensen, vice president of product marketing for Avnet’s IBM business unit, said in a statement. "By joining Blade.org, Avnet Partner Solutions will be able to offer the latest innovations in blade solutions to our partners, giving them a competitive advantage in the marketplace."

Avnet’s ISO-certified integration center can provide the final custom assembly necessary to deliver solutions for end users that will be sold VARs, according to Jensen.

In addition, Avnet has added Vertical*i and Ericom Software to its ISV partner ranks to provide business process management, document management, B2B integration, ERP and supply chain management. That brings the number of Avnet’s applications partnerships to more than 20. The distributor continues to seek IBM-based solutions in vertical markets and around core technologies, such as storage, RFID, security and imaging, Jensen said.
