Susteen Software Protects Cellphone Data

Susteen has reformatted its cellphone software to serve the law-enforcement market, enabling first-responders to securely acquire valuable contact information from seized mobile devices.

DataPilot SecureView, which is available in the GSA Schedule, includes only Read, Save and Print options, eliminating other functions that could cause first-responders to compromise, manipulate or delete information accidentally from seized cellular phones. The software incorporates a universal cabling system and supports more than 350 U.S. and Canadian phone models, making DataPilot the utility that supports the largest number of cellphone models in the North America market. A live tech-support line exclusive to law enforcement is included free for one year.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Avnet Technology Solutions announced the availability of the HP Medical Archiving Solution, which allows hospitals and medical centers to store the huge amounts of data from digital-imaging systems both safely and efficiently.

The offering stores and protects data, enables easy access by medical staff and uses open-standards-based technology. The solution can also be configured and customized using Avnet's ISO-certified Integration Center. In addition, Avnet is offering resellers a suite of sales-enablement services, including technical presales and postsales support, training, online-demonstration capabilities, demand-generation and joint-marketing programs, and professional assessment and implementation services and support.

Fujitsu Makes PalmSecure More Secure

The newest model of Fujitsu's biometric-authentication device, to be available in June, incorporates both aesthetic and functional enhancements that serve the needs of public-sector customers.

PalmSecure, which first launched in North America in June 2005, IDs veins in the palm of the hand, rather than fingerprints. The next-generation device--one-quarter the size of the original--authenticates users faster, cutting verification time in half.

For developers, the sensor will be bundled with a Software Development Kit that includes sample applications and authentication-performance measurements. PalmSecure can be connected directly to a notebook PC's USB port or embedded into desktop PC keyboards.

Fujitsu expects early adoption in the health-care sector, specifically as part of solutions that ease compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The manufacturer also plans to target the government sector and other industries that deal in highly sensitive information.
