Synnex To Buy AIDC/POS Distribution Business

Fremont, Calif.-based Synnex said Tuesday it’s picking up the point-of-sale (POS) and automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) Telpar business, which totaled sales of about $20 million in the 12-month period ended March 31.

“This acquisition will immediately expand our resources and capabilities within the Technology and Solutions Division of Synnex and provide access to existing customers of Telpar,” John Paget, president of North America and COO at Synnex, said in a statement. “Telpar’s highly qualified and focused sales force will increase our competitive presence in the field and our product knowledge base in the areas of AIDC and POS.”

The move to acquire Dallas-based Telpar better positions Synnex in the AIDC/POS distribution space against ScanSource, which specializes in that technology, and Ingram Micro, which acquired Nimax in 2004.

Synnex shares were trading at $18.40 Tuesday morning, even with yesterday’s close.
