Samsung Drops D&H, Picks Up Bell For Storage

At the same time, Samsung Electronics, San Jose, Calif., and D&H Distributing, Harrisburg, Penn., have severed their relationship over storage products, said Albert Kim, senior manager of storage products at Samsung.

D&H continues to maintain a relationship with Samsung Electronics America, Irvine, Calif., for products such as displays.

The shift in distribution alliances leaves Samsung Electronics with three distributors in the U.S., including Bell Micro; Fremont, Calif.-based ASI; and San Jose, Calif.-based Ma Labs.

Samsung Electronics and D&H mutually ended their relationship, Kim said. He said D&H's focus didn't fit Samsung's "distribution model." D&H executives were not immediately available for comment.

What did fit Samsung's distribution model was Bell Micro's large base of industrial customers, Kim said. "Instead of small whitebox customers like those working with ASI or Ma Labs, Bell Micro brings us more value-add customers," he said. "Bell Micro has a team of sales reps involved with more specialized designs."

Samsung's storage product line include notebook, PC, and enterprise hard drives in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors, as well as DVD writable drives with speeds of up to 16X with 8X dual-speed recording, and slim optical drives for mobile computing.
