Help-Desk Help Is On Its Way

Companies and integrators looking for help on help desks can now get referrals and other assistance from The Help Desk Institute, which is supported by IHS Helpdesk Service.

Integrators or internal IT staffs looking to make outsourcing or other help-desk decisions can get information, referrals, training help and other information at the institute's Web site, located at www.helpdeskinst.com.

"People can click and chose any of the services we offer and that now will also be offered by HDI. But the interesting thing is we won't be doing all the work ourselves, we'll act as coordinator and clearing house," said Eric Rabinowitz, president of IHS, New York.

"We were chosen because we've been around so long [and we pretty much know all the major companies and most of the talented people in the industry. . . . the service provider network will provide a means to match consulting opportunities with the providers."

In a statement, Ron Muns, president of the Help Desk Institute, said the site will offer information on a variety of service providers. "We receive lots of calls from members asking for advice and help to improve their support organization," Muns said.

In the weakened economy, help-desk consolidation is a hot topic now, Rabinowitz said. Another big draw is CRM help-desk help.
