BEA Systems 4Q Net Profit Falls

For the fiscal fourth quarter ended Jan. 31, BEA, based here, said net income fell to $10.6 million, or 3 cents a share, from $19 million, or 4 cents a share, a year earlier.

Revenue declined to $231.3 million from $256 million.

Excluding impairment charges, acquisition-related expenses, payroll taxes on stock options, investment gains or losses and restructuring charges, BEA posted a profit of $31.3 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with a profit of $43.8 million, or 10 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter.

Analysts, on average, had expected the company to earn 7 cents a share, with estimates ranging from 5 cents to 9 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call. The company had said it expected to earn about 6 cents to 7 cents a share.
