Qwest Names New CFO, Combines Business Units

Shaffer was CFO of Ameritech from 1994 to 2000. Qwest CEO Richard Notebaert is the former chairman of Ameritech and more recently the former president and CEO of Tellabs, a telecommunications network provider out of Naperville, Ill.

Shaffer replaces Robin Szeliga, who remains with Qwest as an executive vice president.

Qwest also consolidated its businesses into three units: a consumer markets group, which combines national consumer markets, wireless, cable and video businesses; Qwest Enterprises, which includes the carrier's hosting and application services, operator services and international networks; and a business markets group, which combines national business accounts of all sizes.

Afshin Mohebbi, president and COO, is responsible for all of Qwest's operating units.
