Sun Makes A Profit In Q4

Though the company saw a 10 percent revenue increase and a net profit for its fourth quarter, that still couldn't help the company break even for the entire year, which saw revenue down 32 percent.

The company says revenue for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, came in at $12.5 billion, down 32 percent from the year before. GAAP net loss for the fiscal year was $628 million, or 19 cents per share. For the fourth quarter, the company reported $3.4 billion, up 10 percent from the previous quarter. GAAP net income was $20 million, or one cent of earnings per share, up from a loss of $88 million, or 3 cents per share, in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2001.

The company says it saw increases in low-end server sales, driven by UltraSPARC III processor-based products, as well as some growth in its high-end UltraSPARC III processor-based products. The company's storage revenues also grew, according to CEO Scott McNealy.
