HP Rolls Out New NAS Offerings

++

The Palo Alto, Calf.-based company this week unveiled its NAS 8000 package that can work on SAN-attached storage or direct-attached storage.

The NAS 8000 model A7399A hooks into a SAN through the use of Fibre Channel host bus adapters and a switch, while the NAS 8000 A7398A plugs into an HP StorageWorks Virtual Array and extends the storage capacity. Each system has a list price of $39,300, and a built-in wizard gives the IT manager step-by-step instructions on how to create storage volumes.

More important, the devices hold 7.7 terabytes with a single NAS head and up to 15.4 terabytes with clustered NAS servers. The systems' operating system is optimized for file serving and the devices plug directly into Ethernet networks for easy installation. Clustering technology is available for systems that need quick access to data.
