Novell Delays 'Falcon' eDirectory Until June

The eDirectory 8.7 upgrade, which is Web- and wirelessly-enabled, was held back to address issues important to the new executive management and to ensure that security standards are up to snuff, said Dr. Carl Ledbetter, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Novell's Engineering/Research and Development department.

"It's a relatively minor slip," said Ledbetter, noting the decision to hold back the eDirectory 8.7 upgrade was made within the last few weeks. "We're taking a careful look at integration testing. People are much more interested in security now. But no major new additions [beyond the current feature set is planned."

Originally, the Provo, Utah-based company said its next-generation, Web-enabled directory would ship in April, 2002. The Web and wireless management capabilities will allow users to access network resources from a browser and a variety of handheld devices, Novell said.
