EDS Launches New Software Platform

PLM Open is built upon open Web Services standards, such as J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition from Sun Microsystems) and Microsoft's .Net.

EDS PLM Solutions was unveiled in early October 2001. The unit was formed from EDS' acquisitions of Unigraphics Solutions and Structural Dynamics Research, suppliers of product development, data management and collaborative commerce software and services.

At the same time, the company unveiled a software solution aimed at allowing companies working with Unigraphics or Structural Dynamics products to work with models from either of two new PLM applications in an interoperable environment.

Core products from EDS PLM Solutions, including the Teamcenter family of collaboration software and the Unigraphics NX total product engineering technologies, utilize PLM Open as their foundational platform.
