Startup Launches Peer-To-Peer Content Delivery Platform

Jibe of Tampa, Fla., Monday said it has launched EdgeBurst Delivery System 1.0, which leverages a peer-to-peer network architecture to deliver rich media applications. Residing on the edge of the network, the Jibe platform keeps track of rich media content located anywhere on the network and leverages the processing power of multiple servers and clients in a peer-to-peer manner to deliver that media to end users.

Jibe's approach allows IT organizations to deliver rich media content at a much lower cost by using their existing server and network infrastructure in a parallel manner, rather than relying on content delivery networks that charge ongoing service fees, said Neal Ater, CEO of Jibe.

The EdgeBurst Delivery System consists of MediaScout, Jibe's centralized server component that authenticates and authorizes users; PeerCommand, a control panel for administrators; a FuseBox integration kit; and EdgeBurst, a client component needed to download rich media files.

Ironically, the Jibe peer-to-peer platform uses the same type of architecture as Napster to give content providers more control over who is accessing rich media files at a lower cost.
