Computer Associates International

The two new products are part of CA's Unicenter family of network management tools.

Unicenter Wireless Network Management provides automatic discovery of wireless access points and LAN devices, visualization of Wireless LAN topology, performance data and intrusion detection.

Unicenter Mobile Device Management, which supports the Pocket PC, Blackberry and PalmOS mobile platforms, provides device identification, configuration and change management, automated software update distribution, virus protection and secure communication through VPNs.

"Both of these solutions, in combination with the rest of the Unicenter product line, deliver complete management of wired and wireless devices, tethered and untethered," said Yogesh Gupta, senior vice president and CTO of CA, Islandia, N.Y.

CA's push into the wireless space is well timed as health-care customers are deploying the technology to meet HIPAA requirements, said Greg Richey, senior vice president and managing partner at Richey Systems, a solution provider based in Anaheim, Calif.

Education clients are also implementing wireless solutions to support student laptop users and encourage students to utilize distance learning and online registration, Richey said.

"Those two business models are really pushing technology in the wireless direction," Richey said.

The products are scheduled for availability this summer, Gupta said.

CA did not announce product pricing.
