Sun, Yahoo Team Up For Portal Offering

Sun Microsystems Yahoo

Sun, based here, and Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo are working to integrate the My Yahoo! Enterprise Edition product with the Sun ONE Portal Server, said John Fanelli, director of product marketing for Sun ONE portal and communications products.

Once complete, the new product will offer at installation the option to run My Yahoo Enterprise Edition personalized services, such as weather, stock information and news, said Fanelli.

Fanelli said the integrated product will help solution providers show the value of portals to clients. "A lot of deals come down to initial proof of concept, how quickly and easily it is to pull together a portal," said Fanelli. "At a proof -of-concept stage, having this preintegrated [portal allows an integrator to rapidly deploy a portal offering that is compelling."

The integrated Sun ONE/Yahoo will be available in the third quarter of this year under per-seat and per-CPU pricing models, said Ken Hickman, director of portal products for Yahoo enterprise solutions. He would not provide specific pricing, saying only that it would "vary broadly."
