HP Unveils Wireless Services, Add-Ons For iPaqs

The deal with Infowave provides secure access to e-mail and scheduling for mobile workers, while the GoAmerica agreement adds access to frequently used documents when mobile workers are out of the office. Both services are intended to be used wirelessly with the HP iPaq Pocket PC.

Symmetry Pro from Infowave is a software service that allows wireless iPaq Pocket PC customers to securely manage their corporate Exchange email, attachments and calendar in real time. Security is assured from the desktop to the iPaq Pocket PC with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard technology. The service is priced at $19.95 per month for iPaq users.

Wireless access to corporate documents is being provided by the GoAmerica Mobile Office Document Manager. The service lets iPaq users upload frequently used documents from a desktop to provide a document management library, which can be accessed at any time by an wirelessly connected iPaq device.

The Document Manager Premium Edition for HP customers includes 250 MB of storage space, as well as fax in and fax out capabilities, at a cost of $29.95 a month. Document Manager Basic Edition comes with 50 MB of storage space and fax out capabilities at a cost of $9.95 a month.

Also announced Tuesday was the FlyJacket i3800 from LifeView. The add-on can transmit images from an iPaq to a projector, monitor or TV, while maintaining an available CompactFlash slot for storing data and files. Additionally, a pen-sized remote control/pointed is bundled with the packaged. Pricing for the product is $199.

For added battery power, HP announced the Unity Digital ProPower Pack battery enhancement. The ProPower Pack features a rechargeable NiMH battery that offers 2,700 milliamp hours power usage with no memory effect, so users can recharge anytime without shortening battery life. Pricing is $99, including a protective leather case with belt clip.
