Compuware To Release Portal Product Bundled With Search Engine

Compuware

One of the most significant additions to the portal, said Dirk Gorter, product manager at Compuware, is the incorporation of the Inktomi Enterprise Search application, a search and categorization product from Inktomi.

"Search facility and categorized content in your portal are some very basic functions you do pretty much all the time, no matter how you use a portal," said Gorter.

In the past, Compuware looked to partners to integrate search and categorization capabilities, but customer demand led to the company's decision to bundle a fully integrated search solution inside the new portal release--the fourth for Compuware, said Gorter.

"It also allows us to do much more with the portal," said Gorter. "Without access to the product, it would not be possible for us to do it for every single search solution out there."

In addition, OptimalView 2.3 features Community Pages, which allow portal users to work together to publish and share information, and supports LDAP repositories using a standards-based Directory Service Mark-up Language facility.

OptimalView 2.3 pricing starts at $40,000 per server on Windows NT and $70,000 on Unix, which averages about twice as many users, said Gorter. While OptimalView 2.3 is an enterprise portal product, Gorter said he anticipates a sweet spot in the midmarket, where companies are expressing interest in lower-price, complete portal solutions that can be scaled for enterprise systems.
