"Solution providers are taking advantage of cost-effective e-learning training initiatives that include live hands-on exercises to increase their knowledge of high-end networking and security technologies from vendors like Cisco Systems," said Terry Bazzone, vice president and general manager of Tech Data Enterprise, in a statement. "E-learning's anytime, anywhere benefits augment standard classroom training, allowing resellers to access a variety of courseware designed to meet specific needs."

IT e-learning is an $800 million market with projected growth to $3.5 billion by 2003, according to research firm IDC.

The courses from Lafayette, Calif.-based Logilent are part of Tech Data's education group, which has 10 training centers across the country, as well as book, computer and video-based programs.

In addition, Tech Data recently created an e-learning resource center where employees can choose from more than 1,000 CDs, books, audio and videotapes, and computer- and Web-based training courses.

"Through the new e-LRC, Tech Data's U.S. employees now have the option to further develop their careers either at their desks or in their homes," said Lawrence Hamilton, senior vice president of human resources at Tech Data. "The new service will be beneficial for our employees because it promotes the ability to keep pace with the speed of our changing industry and enables them to be prepared for a successful future."
