J.D. Edwards Earnings, Sales Up

The business-software developer Wednesday said it had net income of $9.5 million, or 8 cents a share, in the quarter ended July 31.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had a mean estimate for earnings of 6 cents a share in the latest quarter.

A year earlier, the company had a net loss of $185.9 million, or $1.65 a share, due to several items.

Revenue rose 9.4 percent to $229 million from $209.4 million. Service revenue rose 9.2 percent to $174 million, while license fees climbed 9.8 percent to $54.9 million.

The company reported third-quarter results after the close of regular stock-market trading. In after-hours trading, the shares were up 40 cents, or 3.4 percent, at $12.25 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
