Despite problems with support, Avaya managed to take top honors for loyalty in the 2002 VARBusiness Annual Report Card survey. The fact that Avaya had the highest loyalty scores among its partners was especially noteworthy, given it had the lowest scores in other categories, such as support and product innovation. We wanted to know how a company could have such a loyal partner base when it lagged in other areas. Peterson, who has spent more than a quarter of a century in the telecommunications industry, admits the spin-off has led to many distractions but he is committed to solving those problems and growing the company's IP telephony business.
