LG.Philips, Avnet Unit Ink LCD Deal

The companies, in a statement, said the Avnet unit has agreed to take on LG.Philips' LCD product line and plans to market the monitors to system builders and ISVs. ACS, Phoenix, will also begin selling LG.Philips LCDs to customers in the medical, kiosk, transportation and gaming segments, the companies said.

LG.Philips, a Seoul, Korea-based joint venture between Royal Philips Electronics and LG Electronics, will now compete with Samsung, Sony, ViewSonic and BenQ, among others, in the high-end, LCD space. Pat Cathey, ACS' president, said in the statement that the LG.Philips line would fit into ACS' LCD lineup, which also includes NEC and Sharp displays.

Among the LG.Philips products ACS will take in will be LG.Philips' LCD's TFT-LCD modules, which range from 6.4 inches on the low end to 30 inches on the high end. Both companies said they would "look to expand their presence in the multimedia, medical and [point-of-sale] industries."
