SMC Networks Takes Wrapper Off New 802.11g Access Point

The SMC2552W-G is part of SMC's EliteConnect family of enterprise wireless networking products. It connects both 802.11g and 802.11b devices to enterprise networks on the 2.4GHz band and comes with 802.11b/g mini-PCI modules to increase flexibility.

Security features include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), up to 152-bit WEP encryption, AES, 802.1x authentication access control with key rotation, and support for Funk Odyssey and Microsoft RADIUS server.

The SMC2552W-G also provides configurable output transmit power to adjust coverage area size, and its detachable antennas can be replaced with optional SMC 2.4GHz High Gain Antennas for extended range.

SMC, Irvine, Calif., says support for IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet simplifies installation by enabling the standard Category 5 cable to provide power to the SMC2552W-G access point. The new access point also comes with an integrated Kensington security slot.
