Alcatel this week introduced a new "convergence-ready" stackable multilayer switch.
The Alcatel OmniStack 6124 switch provides intelligence, reliability and scalability at the edge of the network, Alcatel said.
The OmniStack 6124 offers Layer 3 classification based on DiffServ prioritization, as well as Layer 2 classification. The stackable 6124 can give delay-sensitive traffic such as voice and video priority right up to the edge of the enterprise network, the company said.
The switch can stack up to six 24-port 10/100 Ethernet switches with uplink options for increased scalability of up to 150 ports per stack. Individual switches can be connected using 4-Gbps stacking connections.
The new switch also supports port-based and 802.1q virtual LANs for network segmentation without routers.
Slated to be available next month, the OmniStack 6124 list price starts at $1,495.
