AMD Develops Assurance Program

AMD

AMD plans on Friday to roll out the program, dubbed the AMD Assured Program. It will consist exclusively of products that get AMD's stamp of approval. AMD representatives hope the program will provide the security blanket system builders have been waiting for.

"We have a very stable processor platform, and we would like to extend our confidence through the AMD Assured Program," said Ed White, marketing manager for CPG desktops at AMD.

ASUS' A7V266-E motherboard has been the first product selected into the program. It is a full-featured ATX motherboard, which supports the Athlon and Duron chipset.

To qualify for the program, the product has to be selling for at least 12 months. It must also pass a rigorous AMD validation program as well as its own manufacturer's QandA. Lastly, it must be Microsoft-certified. Some technological aspects of the program include network interoperability, management functionality and system deployment. AMD considers remote management, software upgrades and platform migrations to be part of a comprehensive management solution.

Once in the assured program, AMD and the participating vendor, in this case ASUS, will offer free technical assistance and a 24-hour Web-based facility, which customers can access whenever they need to. Both companies will be trained exclusively by factory experts. Also, participants in the program will receive a manageable and more stable platform with BIOS upgrades, and round-the-clock maintenance.

The program will ensure systems builders that AMD will stand behind certain products, and systems builders will be able to offer a reliable, long-lasting solution, the company said.
