Divine Upgrades Eprise, Open Market Apps

Rebranded as Divine Participant Server 4.0 and Divine ContentServer 4.0, the applications provide better integration features to make them more transparent, said Hank Barnes, chief strategy officer at Chicago-based Divine, which describes itself as a provider of solutions for the extended enterprise.

"Content management right now is way too hard," Barnes said. "It's too hard to implement and too hard for people to use. We think the whole focus is that content management is not transparent enough."

Participant Server 4.0, the former Eprise product, now offers improved integration with Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Word, according to Divine. It also supports online chat groups and enables developers to write code in VBScript or Java for integration with legacy and Web applications.

With ContentServer 4.0, a Java 2, Enterprise Edition-based, multisite content management application, users can now edit content in context using Microsoft Word, Divine said. The application also has a new user interface, improved workflow engine and enhanced search engine.

Divine intends to support both content management applications "over the long term," said Bill Crowley, vice president of content management at the company. Divine also plans to integrate features from Participant Server into ContentServer, using Open Market's ContentServer technology as the basis for its next-generation content management application, he added.

Divine completed the acquisitions of software developers Open Market and Eprise last quarter.
