Novell Plans Series of Appliances Based On NetWare

Novell

One of the first products, a Business Office Management Appliance (BOMA), is based on a series of components based on the company's NetWare operating system.

In addition to file-and-print components based on iFolder and iPrint, features within the current NetWare 6 offering, the suite of BOMA components includes storage components, Dr. Carl Ledbetter, CTO and senior vice president of Novell's Engineering/Research and Development department, said during an interview with CRN at BrainShare 2002 here on Monday.

The intent is to attract solution providers back to the Novell camp, he said. "We saw low-end red box [Novell-loaded servers channel sales go very low," Ledbetter said. "We're building up a services offering and a set of appliances that come out of NetWare."

The new appliances will enable solution providers and resellers to deploy a branch office and have it up and running within an hour, Ledbetter said. The first appliances will begin shipping this year, he said.
