Voodoo Casts Spell On New Generation

Voodoo Computers F-Class Limited Edition PC

The Calgary, Alberta-based systems builder is putting a new spin on the white-box model, marketing its F-Class PCs not as bare-bones boxes for the value-conscious, but as souped-up hot rods for a new generation of computer users.

Each F-Class system features an aluminum full-tower case available in an array of colors ranging from Range Rover Metallic Black to Ferrari Red and Lamborghini Yellow. Pricing starts at $3,500.

One side of the case is fitted with a sheet of tempered glass,a window to the system's chrome-plated components, which are illuminated by "Voodoo electric veins," the company's name for neon strips of light.

Voodoo markets its F-Class PCs not as bare-bones boxes but as souped-up hot rods.

"As soon as I saw the attention to detail inside the machine, the decision was easy," said Adam Webster, president of Webster Energy Partners, an energy broker based in Calgary and one of Voodoo's customers. He said he believed that if the company pays half the attention to system performance that it pays to system aesthetics, the F-Class computers would be high-quality, indeed. Other Voodoo customers include cybercafes, auto dealerships, and interior-design and architecture firms.

Available F-Class components include MicroStar motherboards, AMD Athlon XP processors, Western Digital hard drives, nVidia GeForce 4 graphics cards with 128 Mbytes of RAM, Plextor 40X/12X/40X CD-RW drives and Pioneer 16X DVD-ROM drives.

The multimedia aspects of the system are improved as well. According to CRN Test Center engineers, systems that combine the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy audio card and Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers offer remarkable sound quality.
