Avaya Targets Midmarket With IP Telephony Solution

Avaya

The Avaya Integrated Stackable Telephony Solution, built on Avaya's MultiVantage voice application software, is part of the vendor's Enterprise Class Internet Protocol Solutions (ECLIPS) portfolio.

The solution, targeted at midsize businesses or remote offices of large enterprises with 150 to 500 users, combines Avaya's Cajun P330 Stackable Switching System, S8300 Media Server, G700 Media Gateway and VisAbility Management Suite.

To improve the quality of voice delivered over the IP network, Avaya has integrated the media gateway so it utilizes the switch's 8-Gbps backplane, offering eight times higher performance over a traditional, nonintegrated connection between an IP PBX and a switch, said Mack Leathurby, director of solutions management at Avaya, Basking Ridge, N.J.

The integration reduces problems such as latency, delay and jitter caused by traffic congestion, he said.

"By doing that, we've leapfrogged the competition," Leathurby said.

Avaya is actively recruiting solution providers to sell converged voice and data products, he said.

"[The Integrated Stackable Telephony Solution is easy enough to train [partners on; [they will be able to sell it with gusto," Leathurby said.

An average configuration for 50 users, including the solution components as well as phones, Ethernet ports, WAN modules, T1/E1 connectivity for the public switched telephone network and software licenses, is priced at about $60,000. The solution is scheduled for general availability this month.
