Collabrix Brings Secure IM To Corporations

Linqware

Collabrix enhances Citrix's MetaFrame or NFuse capabilities by shadowing applications, making it easier for end users to find each other and share applications. The user that initiates the conference has full control of all participants. At the end of a shared session, the initiator can disconnect anyone from the application. The number of users a conference can hold is determined by the slowest connection speed of a participant.

All conferences are stored in a SQL Server 7 or 2000 database. The company also ships MSDE as a starting database. All the data can be maintained or purged based on an administrator's settings. Unfortunately, Collabrix does not index the data in a conference, so users cannot perform any text searches. Only the date and name of participants can be used when searching archived conferences.

The Collabrix client allows users to change its connection resources. All inactive conferences have a default time limit of 20 minutes per session, but users are able to change this setting at any time. Linqware only has passive resource monitoring for administrators, so they cannot enforce a time limit on a session at the server level. This can potentially pose network traffic bottlenecks on large deployments.

For solution providers looking to tap into the Collabrix database in their corporate networks to build knowledge-based systems, Linqware has made the schemas available upon request. Typical corporate deployments so far have been for interdepartmental Q/A communication.
