Microsoft Plots Plans For Domino Conversions

As of Monday, the company is offering Microsoft Application Analyzer for Lotus Notes to ease migration from and coexistence of Lotus Notes applications and Microsoft's infrastructure offerings.

"There are a lot of Domino apps that would perform better with a different back end. This tool looks at the applications and suggests where they should run,SQL Server, SharePoint, Exchange etc.," said a Microsoft spokesman.

The analyser's Data Collector component will now be available as a free download. The higher-end Data Processor component, which lets a solution provider drill down into the complexities of the application, is now available to a wider range of certified partners and customers. It had been used by a select group of consultants and partners until now, the company said.

In addition, as first reported by CRN last April, (See Related Story) Microsoft is partnering with Casahl Technology to link Notes and Domino into Microsoft Exchange installations. To do this, Microsoft is endorsing the use of Casahl's ecKnowledge Version 7.5 to bind Notes/Domino applications into a Microsoft-centric operation, the company said.

The news comes a week before IBM Lotus Software group's planned launch of Domino 6, QuickPlace 3.0 and Sametime 3.0. Casahl is a longtime Lotus partner and ISV based in San Ramon, Calif.
