Inforonics Tackles Rogue Applications

"Working on a blank page is easy--we're really geared towards going into [existing applications," said Bruce Mills, Inforonics president of managed services.

At Internet World this month, Mills talked about taming "rogue applications" in businesses. Rogue applications, Mills described, come from a variety of sources, including legacy systems, custom developments and mergers and acquisitions. They provide critical business services, but central IT departments frequently lack the staffing and expertise to maintain them properly, or replace them altogether. Inforonics said up to 70% of all IT budgets go to software maintenance.

"Cost reduction is often the pain that gets people to talk to us," Mills explained. Inforonics specializes in auditing applications' source code, data and business rules, and providing a disciplined approach to ongoing application management, enhancement, or replacement. "Customers control how they want to spend their money. We have the methodology and expertise, and we often save companies 40% to 70% on managed applications costs," according to Mills.

The Paragon 4 suite includes Discovery, Planning, Certification and Remote Management components, available separately or as a combined service. Mills said the company's expertise covers applications on a number of platforms, including Sun Solaris and Java, Microsoft NT and Linux-based applications.
