Microsoft Set To Announce Reorganization

The Wall Street Journal reported that the announcement was expected Wednesday at the company's annual meeting for financial analysts and institutional investors.

The software giant also was to introduce seven newly appointed senior executives who will act as financial officers of each of the units and report to the unit's general manager, the Journal said. These executives will have responsibility for setting financial targets, handling budgeting, and measuring performance of their units.

The moves were seen as the latest sign of Microsoft's transition from a technology high-flier to a mature industrial giant. Earlier this month, the company abandoned stock options, which were used as hiring incentives by high-tech firms on the rise, in favor of stock awards which reward employees even when the stock is falling.
