Apple Shipping G5s
The two G5s, which sell for $1,999 and $2,399, vary in the speed of the Apple and IBM-designed 64-bit processor, the speed of the front-side bus, the amount of memory, and the size of the hard drive.
The most expensive of the pair sports a 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 processor, 512 Mbytes of memory, a 160-Gbyte hard drive, and a 900MHz front-side bus.
Later this month, Apple will ship the dual-processor version of the G5. With a price tag of $2,999, the model will feature a pair of 2 GHz PowerPC G5 processors, 512 Mbytes of memory, and for the first time in an Apple desktop, a front side bus that breaks the 1GHz mark.
The two single-processor G5s are available now online, at Apple's own retail stores, and through authorized Apple resellers.
