VARBusiness' first annual Tech Innovators Awards ceremony was held Monday night at Arizona's Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Hotel; the event was in conjunction with CMP Media's latest XChange conference. (CMP is VARBusiness' parent company.)
A total of 370 applications poured in from more than 100 vendors, touting products that spanned eight different technology categories, including wireless, storage and Web services. A combination of VARBusiness editors and top-notch judges tapped from the top solution-provider businesses across the country whittled the entries down to 66 finalists, which were then judged on a variety of metrics, including newness, potential suitability for VARs and overall coolness. From there, 24 companies were selected and honored with awards.
Highlights of the evening's SRO event included naming Novell's ZenWorks as the overall Top Innovator for receiving the highest total score from the judging panel. ZenWorks is an automated desktop deployment tool that has recently been enhanced to include support for non-NetWare networks.
Also of note, PGP's PGP Universal product received our Editor's Choice Award. PGP Universal is a new secure e-mail appliance that makes it easy to deploy encrypted messaging.
Without further ado, here are the companies and products that were honored.
