Verio Taps New CEO

Conley, most recently president and CEO of systems integrator Tanning Technology, will succeed Jaschke, who founded Verio in 1996 and led it to become one of the largest domain-based Web hosting providers in the world. Conley is scheduled to take over as CEO effective Feb. 9, and said that he was excited about the challenge of capturing market share through channel sales and other efforts.

"I look forward to working closely with NTT Communications and the Verio team to achieve continued financial and market results as we ensure ongoing investments in our solutions development and delivery," Conley said. "Verio is poised to capture an even larger share of the market and capitalize on its leadership position."

Prior to his tenure at Tanning, Conley served as global general manager of e-Markets at IBM, with worldwide responsibility for all IBM activities in the business-to-business e-Business sector. Conley also was a member of IBM's senior leadership group.

Before that, Conley served as global general manager of IBM's Travel and Transportation Industry business, and earlier worked at Galileo International, reaching the position of president and CEO. He started his career in IT in 1977 with IBM, where he served as an engineer and scientist in the vendor's Federal Systems Division.

Jaschke said that Conley's varied experiences made him the perfect successor.

"Greg's tremendous track record of building and growing large-scale global operations and his expertise in networking, outsourcing and IT services uniquely qualify him to lead [Verio] in this next phase of growth," Jaschke said. "[Conley] is taking the reins at an exciting time in Verio's evolution."

Jaschke wasn't the only high-ranking official at Englewood, Colo.-based Verio to step down this week. On Thursday, Craig Schlagbaum, vice president of channel sales, said he was leaving to become Vice President of Channel Marketing and Programs at Level 3 Communications in nearby Broomfield, Colo.

Schlagbaum noted that his departure had "nothing to do" with Jaschke's, and said he planned to leave sometime in mid-February.

Jaschke is expected to remain with Verio in an advisory capacity.
