The E100+25: Breaking Out Of the Box

Outside Boston's Logan Airport, an innovative e-business service company has posted an eye-catching billboard that does more than turn heads. The billboard attracts new employees. It says: "If you worked at Breakaway Solutions, you'd still be home now."

The message is a barb at competitors that send people packing every week. Breakaway Solutions E100 prefers that employees work on its premises, not at faraway customer sites. The message appeals to road-weary technology consultants who funnel through Massachusetts' capital en route to their assignments.

By challenging the norm, Breakaway Solutions CEO Gordon Brooks believes he can create a more attractive environment for employees, not to mention a more efficient partner for customers.

Clever, huh? Breakaway Solutions, which generated $25 million in sales last year, is one of more than 100 e-business professional service companies challenging the way automation is delivered. In this issue, VARBusiness highlights the top 100 e-business professional services companies helping customers today, plus a bonus 25 to watch for.

The listing, includes everything from start-ups to transplants, interactive agencies to Web integrators, e-business consultancies to solution providers. Although their business models differ, they all help customers participate in the digital e-business revolution. They are, in sum, the architects of the new economy.

We begin with executive Q&As with CEOs at six of these companies, Breakaway Solutions included.
