Redefining itself in the changing e-business universe, Sierra Atlantic is aiming for the heart of B2B exchanges.
The Fremont-based integrator's expertise in application development and tying complex systems together is its key strength, as the company focuses not just on building exchanges but on working out the trickier parts of linking the ERP systems of buyers to those of suppliers.
Sierra Atlantic recently won the bid to help Fibermarket, an exchange for the forestry products industry, connect the back-office systems of buyers, suppliers and brokers to its marketplace.
Fibermarket has more than 250 companies involved in the exchange, many with older ERP systems that need to be Web-enabled, says Sanjay Bulchandani, Sierra Atlantic's director of e-business innovation. "The exchange is up and running, but everyone involved needs to be connected," Bulchandani says. "The big challenge is tying the buyers' financial systems with the system sitting on the market exchange."
Sierra Atlantic's expertise in back-end ERP applications and application development made it a natural choice, says David Barrack, CTO at the company.
"Fibermarket's customers will benefit from increased productivity and reduced supply chain costs," says Barrack, a co-founder of the exchange.
