Allaire plans to launch ASP and wireless initiatives during its second annual Worldwide Developers Conference here this week.

Also on tap is the developer's acquisition of new Java technology and a new version of Allaire's Spectra application framework.

WASHINGTON THIS WEEK
  • Allaire Developers Conference, Nov. 6-Nov. 8

  • Armed Forces Communications And Electronics Association 15th Mid-Atlantic Intelligence Symposium, Nov. 8-Nov. 9

  • Digital Crossroads 2000. Nov. 8-Nov. 9

  • Networking For The New Economy Nov. 8

  • Cato Institute Technology & Entertainment Conference, Nov. 9-Nov. 10
  • The Newton, Mass.-based company, which is holding its conference during the week of the presidential election, voted to deliver new licensing options and tailored partner programs for ASPs, says Jeff Whatcott, director of business development at Allaire.

The company plans to introduce a new Commercial Service Provider Licensing Program that features "pay-as-you-go" fee structures and bundled services for ASPs and hosting companies, Whatcott says.

Allaire's strategy is not to target the "enterprise 'mega-app,' where there is a lot of hype and not a lot of customers," but "niche-focused solutions that solve specific problems for companies," Whatcott says.

One such example is Event411.com, an ASP specializing in online meeting and event-planning solutions, which uses Allaire ColdFusion.

Another partner, evolutionB, offers a suite of ASP-enabling enhancements to ColdFusion, including wireless access, services provisioning and metering framework.

EvolutionB CEO Jayson Woodbridge says Allaire's technology helped his firm build an "enabling solution for emerging ASPs."

Allaire also plans to discuss its acquisition of the Kawa Java integrated development environment from Tek-Tools for $9 million in cash.

Allaire's wireless strategy is also expected to be discussed during the conference. The company is getting into wireless to leverage the Allaire Business Platform for building wireless applications.
