ASP Pulse: Wireless Wagers Are Worth It

Users are ready and willing to sign on for wireless ASP services, says market researcher IDC.

A poll of 361 U.S. and European users shows that 61 percent would consider using a wireless ASP.

Almost 80 percent of the respondents say they want to access e-mail on a wireless device. Customer service and support, unified messaging and sales-force automation also rank high on the users' wish list.

ASPs will need integration expertise to deliver wireless services, says the study, which found that 53 percent of the respondents predict they will use a third party to integrate wireless applications with their existing systems.

However, IDC warns ASPs not to put their current customer base into the background while pursuing wireless endeavors.

"Wireless applications represent a very real and viable opportunity for ASPs, but it's essential that while trying to seize the opportunity, ASPs don't lose sight of their current business and the customers they already are serving," says Jessica Goepfert, a senior analyst with IDC.

If ASPs already serve the markets mentioned above, such as e-mail, then wireless should be a natural venue for the ASP, adds Goepfert.

We're In The Money

Not all the wells are dry.

InteQ managed to secure $57 million in financing during its second round of funding.

The MSP is going to use the money to bulk up its sales force and accelerate the adoption of its services in the enterprise space.

"This round of investment will launch InteQ into growth phase," says Santhana Krishnan, chairman and CEO of InteQ.

The financing includes $40 million in new equity from investors such as Mercury Interactive, Charles River Ventures and M/C Venture Partners. Of the $57 million, $17 million is convertible debt financing.
