Addonics' DigiDrive Simplifies Reading Of Flash Memory

The profusion of technology advancements has created a situation in which many end users now must deal with more than one type of flash memory. The new internal DigiDrive from Addonics addresses that issue by eliminating the need to keep several adapters on hand to read memory.

The DigiDrive reads all seven of the popular memory formats: CompactFlash types I and II, SmartMedia, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital Card, Sony's Memory Stick and IBM's Microdrive.

DigiDrive takes just minutes to install, depending on the system. The device is placed in a 3.5-inch bay and connects to a USB header on the motherboard. All of the latest operating systems will "see" the device immediately when a computer is powered up and provide drive icons for each memory slot on the front of the drive. Drivers are also supplied on CD.

DigiDrive supports Windows 98 Second Edition, ME, 2000 and XP, as well as Mac OS 8.6 or higher and Linux kernel 2.4 or higher. It is USB 1.1- and USB 2.0-compliant.

When CRN Test Center engineers installed a DigiDrive in a test-bed system, it was reading flash memory in minutes. Those who work with a variety of flash memory types on a regular basis will find that the DigiDrive-equipped system will save a great deal of time and simplify working with flash memory.

Because of the multitude of memory choices, the market is ready-made for this product, solution providers said.

"Addonics always makes quality products, and DigiDrive is one of the most versatile multimedia storage solutions on the market, so it's easy to sell to multiple markets," said James Gan, president of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based MNP Computer and Communication Systems.
