Everyone seems to be going digital these days, but transferring legacy videotape to digital video storage can often be a cumbersome process. AVerMedia Technologies aims to simplify that task with its AVerDVD EZmaker kit. All users need to do is connect a VCR or camcorder to the S-Video or RCA jacks on the capture card and then run a user-friendly wizard to capture and burn video. Solution providers can use the product, priced at $49.99, for transferring videotaped content such as company events and training courses to optical storage. www.avermedia.com

While many businesses transport data-backup tapes to an off-site location for safekeeping, the fact remains that nothing can be restored if the backup tapes are destroyed. One fail-safe solution is to back up data over the Web. LiveVault's Online Backup And Recovery Service, offered in tandem with data-vaulting services provider Iron Mountain, provides IP-based online server backup, off-site electronic vaulting and data recovery. The service, which supports Windows NT/2000/XP, Sun Solaris and Red Hat Linux, provides continuous backup, no-wait recovery and remote-management capabilities, and there are no tapes to deal with. Off-site data is stored in secure Iron Mountain facilities and can be restored from anywhere in the world. The service costs $295 per month for up to 10 Gbytes of data, $695 per month for up to 25 Gbytes, and $1,250 per month for up to 50 Gbytes. www.livevault.com
