Cape Clear Refreshes Tools

Cape Studio 3 and Cape Connect 3.5 are scheduled to be released Feb. 18. Cape Studio is a lightweight tool that allows solution providers to develop, assemble, deploy and manage Web services from Java and CORBA environments, said Cape Clear CEO Annrai O'Toole. Cape Connect is the enterprise version of Cape Studio with enhanced security, messaging and integration features. Cape Connect 3.5 also will include an integration framework that enables solution providers to customize the tool, he said.

CAPE CLEAR PRODUCT UPDATES

>> Cape Studio 3, an updated version of Cape Clear's integrated Web services environment, offers enhanced security, messaging and integration features.
>> Capr Connect 3.5, an updated version of Cape Clear's enterprise-scale Web services tool, enables users to manage Web services from Java and CORBA environments.

Cape Clear, based in Dublin, Ireland, but with its U.S. office here, is one of several new companies selling tools specifically to build Web services using standards such as SOAP and WSDL.

Cape Clear does not offer consulting services and depends on partners to distribute its products, O'Toole said. More than 50 percent of Cape Clear's sales are through indirect channels.

Industry observers said Cape Clear's products accomplish its goal to make generating Web services more accessible for less tech-savvy business developers.

"Without a product like [this, you could take a [Java 2 Enterprise Edition server and build Web services, but it's really hard," said Mike Gilpin, vice president and research fellow at Giga Information Group.

John Gillespie, president and CEO of Kinetrix Solutions, said the Hartford, Conn.-based solution provider's clients and engineers have benefited from using Cape Studio. "It's speeding up our development process, and it's helped a lot of my consultants come up to speed with Web services quicker than if they were jumping in and trying to code all of these things by hand," he said.
