Vignette Extends Sun iPlanet Relationship

Vignette Sun Microsystems

The two companies plan to introduce a bundled e-business solution through their direct channels by mid-2000 that will include applications from both companies, according to Vignette.

"If we start blowing out numbers with our direct-sales forces, then we'll take it out to our channel partners," said Santi Pierini, vice president of product strategy for Vignette.

Pierini said the significant news for partners was that Vignette and Sun were working together at a deeper level and partners that are investing in both companies "can feel confident that it's the right stack."

Vignette has a similar relationship with IBM that includes hardware, software and services. Vignette also partners with BEA Systems on software.

Also at JavaOne, Stellent unveiled a release of its XML conversion software, Outside In XML Export 2.2. The new version includes a simplified XML schema, called Search XML, designed for searching and indexing applications, said Betty Shanahan, vice president of product management and marketing for Stellent's software components division.

The software is mostly sold on an OEM basis to application developers, including several document management vendors that embed the capability into their software, Shanahan said. She said some integrators use the software for developing solutions that require secure handling of documents.
