Mercury Interactive Beats Outlook

The company, a maker of software used to test and monitor other software, reported net income of $15.2 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with $16.1 million, or 18 cents a share, the previous year.

Excluding special charges for amortization of goodwill and restructuring, as well as a $3 million gain for early retirement of debt, the company said it earned $12.1 million, or 14 cents a share.

Revenues were flat at $90.5 million, compared with $90.7 million in the year-earlier quarter.

The company had forecast earnings of 9 cents to 12 cents a share on revenue of $84 million to $90 million. Analysts, on average, had expected the company to earn 10 cents a share on revenue of $86.14 million, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.
