Internal HP Memo Discloses Management Structure

Hewlett-Packard

Complete organizational charts and a couple of letters listing many of these managers can be viewed by clicking the links below.

While letters from some of the top management of the individual groups warn that "these appointments will not take place until after the legal close of the merger and the launch of the new HP," new organizational charts clearly spell out who is expected to run those groups' operations.

Eighteen managers will report directly to Jim Milton, who was previously unveiled as regional manager for the Americas for the Enterprise Systems Group. These include David Petts, in charge of industry standard servers; Dan Vertrees, in charge of enterprise partners; Marilyn Edling, in charge of business critical systems; and Bill Weaver, in charge of U.S. enterprise and commercial sales. Reporting to Weaver will be Kevin Dunwoody, in charge of the eastern United States; Paul Gerrard for the central United States; and Leigh Morrison, in charge in the western United States.

The Business Critical Systems Global Business Unit under the Enterprise Systems Group will be managed overall by Scott Stallard, a 27-year veteran at HP, and will consist of eight divisions. Rich Marcello will lead the Alpha Systems Division, with a primary mission of transitioning to the Itanium platform. Reporting directly to Marcello will be teams from Compaq's AlphaServer Group, OpenVMS, and Alpha microprocessor development, while teams related to Tru64 Unix and marketing will work with Marcello, according to a memo from Stallard.

The Business Critical Systems' new Enterprise Unix Division will be run by Xuan Bui. Heading the Hardware Systems and Technology Division will be Donovan Nickel, who will focus on PA RISC and Itanium server families. Winston Prather will head the High Performance Technical Computing Division, while Martin Fink will run the Linux Systems Division. Other managers include Pauline Nist for the NonStop Enterprise Division, John Wheeler for the Systems VLSI and Technology Division, and Barbara Bacile for the Total Customer Experience and Support Division.

The Network Storage Solutions Global Business Unit under the Enterprise Systems Group will be managed overall by Howard Elias, a longtime Compaq veteran who joined that company in 1998 with the Compaq acquisition of Digital Electronics. Nineteen managers are expected to report to Elias, including Mark Sorenson, in charge of storage software; Neal Clapper, in charge of online storage; Frank Harbist, in charge of nearline storage; and Mark Lewis, in charge of storage marketing and solutions.

The Personal Systems Group for the Americas will be run by Mike Larson, formerly senior vice president and general manager for Compaq's worldwide consumer group. Twelve managers will report to Larson, including Kevin Gilroy, who will be responsible for commercial channels.

HP Services for the Americas will be run by Jack Novia, currently vice president of enterprise sales for Compaq's northeast region. Under Novia are 15 direct report managers, including Sami Zarzour, in charge of the eastern United States; Jim Angers, in charge of the central United States; and Dan Branda, in charge of the western United States.

There is some overlap in the new organizations. For instance, Sam Mancuso will be responsible for corporate sales under both Milton and Walker. Marilyn Edling is shown as reporting to both Milton and Stallard.
