The smart handheld product winner is the Compaq iPaq, which will be renamed the HP iPaq.

HP Chairman and CEO Carly Fiorina and President Michael Capellas were slated to begin a press conference here Tuesday to give full details of the new HP product road map.

In a letter to customers, Fiorina and Capellas noted that the new company has "doubled the size of our sales force, enabling us to serve you more effectively and deliver greater value. We have increased our research and development capabilities so that we continue to make meaningful advances in technology that benefit you. And we have strengthened our position as the world's most innovative and successful consumer IT company, which gives us a unique opportunity to help our customers bridge the world between digital content and commerce."

Fiorina and Capellas said that by "joining forces, we will also be able to reduce costs and improve our operating model, enabling us to devote more of our resources toward pursuits that produce greater value for you, today and in the future."

"While this merger obviously signifies change, we are committed to making the process of integrating our two companies as transparent as possible," the letter said.
