PC Connection Earns $325,000 In 2Q

PC Connection earned $325,000, or 1 cent per share, on $292.2 million in sales for the second quarter ended June 30. In the year-ago quarter, the Merrimack-based direct marketer earned $1.4 million, or 6 cents per share, on revenue of $297.3 million.

"We are pleased to report that the company earned, before restructuring and other special charges, $390,000, or 2 cents per share, ahead of the company's recently updated guidance," said Ken Koppel, CEO of PC Connection. "We continue to be cautiously optimistic that with seasonally better quarters for our GovConnection business, the company will see improved results in the remaining two quarters of 2002."

Average order size in the second quarter was $1,127, compared with $1,120 a year ago and $894 in the first quarter, according to the company.

Desktop/server systems was the largest product category, accounting for 15.5 percent of sales in the second quarter, compared with 12.7 percent for the same period last year. Notebook computer systems accounted for 15.1 percent of sales, compared with19.8 percent last year. The shift in mix resulted primarily from the acquisition of MoreDirect, whose computer systems sales are concentrated more in the desktop/server category, according to PC Connection.

The average selling prices of computer systems decreased 6 percent compared with the year-ago quarter, while increasing 13 percent compared with the first quarter.
